For most industries, benchmarking is one of the main tests of a company's performance and the outputs of a study can give a clear indication as to where a company is capable of going with their operation. In 2003 TEFEN was asked by the members of the BioPharma Operations Excellence Consortium to conduct such a survey. The BioBM results were published at the start of 2004 - both the industry results (available to all participants) and the individual reports (confidential and specific to each site) were very well received.

Three years later and the BioPharma sector has advanced rapidly. Now there is another need in the market for a comprehensive benchmark study to provide a clear overall picture of the current industry status and an understanding of how the key players are operating today.

For large companies, it provides a snap-shot of how they are performing vs. their peers and where improvement opportunities exist.

For smaller companies, the study provides a roadmap for the design of world-class systems.

• To provide information that will allow participating companies to identify their operational gaps, target opportunities and drive improvements.

  The results of the study should be used as a Reference Point to:

  · Identify best practice and build a roadmap for improvement,

  · Identify where a company stands in the industry,

  · Identify goals for specific operational improvement,

  · Assess the level of improvement since last review,

  · Compare company improvements to those of the industry.

  These results are presented in individual reports which also include the industry findings. By using the results of the previous BioBM, TEFEN can now draw useful comparisons with the previous findings and report on progress for companies and the industry as a whole.
