For the month of June we are very pleased to present Tefen’s new CFO, Moran Markovitz. In this special interview, Moran, who works at Tefen since 2014, told us about his many important activities as a CFO, and about his both business and personal passions.
Tell us about your background.
I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Business and Economics from the Hebrew University, a M.A. in accounting, and I’m also a CPA. I worked for EY from 2010 to 2014 as a manager for auditing and reviewing public companies that are traded on the TASE and the Nasdaq.
I joined Tefen in 2014, starting as a finance director for Tefen Israel and USA. After one year, my responsibilities included the finance department of Tefen Italy and Tefen UK, Germany, and Switzerland. Eventually I was promoted as the CFO of the Tefen Group.
I am responsible for the entire finance department. However, my main passion is developing the corporate business worldwide.
I do it in many different channels. For instance, I am attracting new clients and supporting the different Tefen companies by generating business leads. I am scouting after new talents for us, and new services. I established a global chain of associates who contribute to the overall capabilities and business development efforts. I am also establishing new partnerships and entities, and support building teams for projects.
What attracted you to apply to Tefen?
I applied to Tefen because I felt it could be the right place for me. And I am proud to say that I was right!
A finance role in a management consulting firm is much more than the numbers. You deal with many aspects of the business such as strategy, operations, HR, projects, people, contracts, staffing, etc. The main asset of a consulting firm is the people. Therefore, it’s important for someone in this role to be a people’s person, and I am such a person.
What do you like the most about your professional life?
I like many things about my professional life in Tefen. More than that, my work at Tefen is a combination of my two passions: finance & business development.
I love the daily intense communication with the different Tefen companies, employees, partners, clients, directors and associates from all over the world. I feel like Tefen is my second home.
What’s the main goal for a management consulting company?
In general, (and from a CFO point of view), the main goal for a company is to be profitable. In addition, and specifically for a management consulting firm, the main goal for a management consulting company is to become a recognized thought leader in its practices.
Do you travel a lot?
I do, too much (laughs). I’m spending a major part of my time visiting the different Tefen offices. When I am travelling between the global companies, I usually work from morning until night.
When visiting, my activities are diverse: on the one hand maintaining the finance departments, making sure everything is on the right track. On the other hand, “feel the people and the business” in a much more personal way. And of course, I am trying to meet with new people and bring more business, too.
Tell us about an initiative of yours that you’re most proud of.
In general, I am very proud of my business development activities. Every time I see a project sold that was generated by these activities, it makes me feel extremely proud and satisfied.
Specifically, I am very proud that I established Tefen Switzerland and established a huge chain of global associates that creates great value for the group in many different aspects.
What are your activities outside of work?
I love playing basketball, working out at the gym, watching movies, traveling, dancing, and reading books.
What’s your favorite movie?
My favorite movie is “The Godfather”.
